Aikikai Ireland Photo Gallery

What an incredible trip, Aikikai Ireland members Eamon Coyne Sensei, Joe McHugh Sensei and Lizzy McHugh travel to Japan for a truly memorable experience. During the trip Eamon, Lizzy and Joe hooked up in Japan with European group of Michele Quaranta Senseis students from Czech Republic, Holland, Italy, Macedonia, Slovakia and Switzerland. When we arrived we travelled straight from Tokyo to Kyoto to spend some time sightseeing in this magical place. We also took a day trip to Himeji Castle in Hyogo Prefecture too. After 4 days in Kyoto we travelled to the Meishin Kai Dojo in Iruma where we had a very special class with Masatomi Ikeda Sensei, Kamei Sensei and Michele Quaranta Sensei.During this class the travelling European group had the oppurtunity to train with these 3 great Sensei in a unique class, which was a highlight for all of the group. The Japanese students from the Meishin Kai dojo warmly welcomed the visiting European students and we all went for a dinner together after the class washed down with plenty of Sake. After dinner it was onwards to Takasaki our base during the 12th International Aikido Congress.

In Takasaki we had the oppurtunity to train with top instructors from Japan and abroad namely Moriteru Ueshiba Doshu Mitsuteru Ueshiba Hombu Dojo-cho Hiroshi Tada Sensei Yoshimitsu Yamada Sensei Katsuaki Asai Sensei Morito Suganuma Sensei Toshiyuki Arai Sensei Christian Tissier Sensei Yoshiaki Yokota Sensei Yukimitsu Kobayashi Sensei Koichi Fuji Sensei Tsuruzo Miyamoto Sensei Shigeru Sugawara Sensei Etsuji Horii Sensei Takanori Kuribayashi Sensei Takeshi Kanazawa Sensei Tony Smibert Sensei Ulf Evenas Sensei Micheline Tissier Sensei Yoko Okamoto Sensei Janet Clift Sensei. This week long seminar concluded with a last class given by the Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba attened by 2000 Aikidoka from all over the world. A special thanks to Mario Cerny (Slovakia) for all of the organisation and Go Shimizu (Japan) for the great help during the trip.
